The 347 cubic inch strokers are easily the most popular upgrade for the 302. 475 easily attainable horsepower and torque numbers to match are the reason for its widespread acceptance. Minor clearancing of the block is required, and free-flowing heads and proper camshafts are required to take advantage of the extra 45 cubic inches.

Flat top pistons in a 347 inch Ford engine will generally provide compression ratios in the 10.4:1 range which makes them a good option for engines with aluminum heads or larger cc iron heads. 475 Horsepower (flywheel) levels are typical with aftermarket heads and camshafts. Valve reliefs are configured to work with most types of standard and aluminum cylinder heads and will normally fit camshafts to slightly over .600 valve lift.
